Star Wars: The Black Series

Eco-Friendly Packaging With a Clean New Look.

About The Project

For this project, I was tasked with creating an eco-friendly redesign for a product of my choosing. I decided to select Star Wars: The Black Series due to my familiarity and knowledge of the product. The goal was to produce a visually compelling, high-quality package that stayed true to The Black Series aesthetic while creating a more eco-friendly package. Deliverables include a fully designed packaging mockup, print advertisements and trading cards for each figure.

*This project is purely conceptual and has no official affiliation with the Star Wars brand.

Process

Starting with initial sketches and photographs of the figures, I moved to Adobe Photoshop for compositing and to Illustrator for the packaging design. This process involved experimenting with layout, lighting, and colours to highlight each figure’s features. Feedback from my professor shaped revisions, enhancing text placement and colour schemes. Through multiple adjustments, I refined the packaging’s look, achieving a striking design that aligns with Star Wars aesthetics and meets collector standards.

Summary

I’m very pleased with the final design, as it successfully reflects the different character's essence's and achieves a balanced, collectible-focused look that would likely resonate with Star Wars fans. The packaging combines bold visuals and subtle details, enhancing the figure’s appeal. If I were to redo this project, I would photograph the figure actually inside the box. This project emphasized the importance of aligning packaging aesthetics with brand and product themes, reinforcing my design skills for character-driven collectibles.
